KEN BARSA
Ken was the SPY Swimming head coach for 28 years based in Severna Park, as well as a math resource teacher in Anne Arundel County for 37 years.
As a collegiate swimmer, Ken was a 3-year NCAA Division I National Qualifier and Olympic Trial Qualifier while attending St. Johns University in New York City. He has achieved national recognition as a Level V ASCA certified coach. Over his tenure, Ken has led the SPY swim team to an unprecedented level of success, both in the win/loss column, and in the development of well rounded young adults.
He has coached senior and junior national qualifiers as well as a YMCA National record holder. In 2002 Ken was appointed President of the U.S. YMCA Coaches association for a 3 year period were emphasis was on both coach and parent education. His area of expertise focuses on technique training at all levels from age group to adult.

I’ve been a competitive swimmer for over 50 years. I compete in open water and pool races on the local, national and international stage. I love teaching swimming and specialize in adults at any level, especially those who cannot swim. I also work with children that can already swim and want to work on strokes, with a goal toward swim team competition.
Accomplishments include:
2015 Maryland Public School State Champion, 50 yard freestyle.
2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 YMCA Long Course and Short Course Nationals qualifier
AAAA Time Standard Qualifier 50, 100 yard freestyles.
10 time Delmarva Swim League Champion (4 times individually)
Numerous time TCY record breaker.

4 Years Swimming at QACHS, holds 9 team & 8 Regional Records, Team Captain & MVP

Swimming & all things water fitness have been a huge part of my life since I began swimming competitively at the age of 8. My own fitness journey began after the birth of my second son & my passion has become showing people that exercise & movement can be fun & enjoyable, & seeing people not only meet their goals, but have a good time doing it is such a joy!
